Despite some audio interfaces allow to select a VERY low buffer size, it's recommended to not go lower than 16 samples (if your system is powerful enough). A buffer size of 128 is usually good enough for fast and smooth playing.
If your standalone app is crashing after selecting a low buffer size (< 16 samples), you need to delete the standalone settings file located here:
PC: C:\Users\<your user>\AppData\Roaming\<plugin name>
Mac: /Users/<your user>/Library/Application Support/PolyChrome DSP/
